Where the a16z Style style comes from, and what it signals.
We modeled a16z Style on the State of Crypto reports that the Andreessen Horowitz crypto team publishes each fall. On each slide the finding sits in bold navy on a pastel panel, one phrase of it on a lime or magenta highlighter block, and a chart fills the white side. This is an unofficial homage with no affiliation, license or endorsement from Andreessen Horowitz.
We sampled the colors from published report pages: navy #173462 text, mint #c5e9df to butter #fcf8d5 panels, orchid #ffe6f1 to #efd8f6 panels, highlighters in #e2fe6b and #ea2ce8, and series in purple #65327d, teal #089582, green #62b33a and orange #f0a656. Noto Sans, a humanist sans close to the original type, sets all the type. Chart titles hold the legend, so you color the series names in the title and drop the legend box.
Use this a16z-style research deck for work you publish, such as an annual state-of-the-market report or a portfolio benchmark. The signature slide is the adoption overlay, which compares two eras on a log scale with a colored year axis for each series. The market map swaps logos for plain named tiles, so you can list companies without chasing logo files.
