Canva Overview

Canva remains one of the most widely used design platforms in the world, now serving over 260 million monthly active users. What began as a drag-and-drop graphic design tool has evolved into something much closer to an all-in-one creative operating system, with AI threaded through every part of the workflow.
The launch of Magic Studio brought together more than 20 AI-powered features under a single hub. For presentations specifically, the most relevant tools are Magic Design (generates complete slide decks from a text prompt), Magic Write (AI copy generation), Magic Switch (converts presentations to different formats or languages), Magic Animate (one-click animations), and the new Dream Lab image generator powered by Leonardo’s Phoenix model.
Canva also launched a conversational AI assistant directly on the homepage — you can describe what you need in plain language (including by voice), and Canva AI will build it.

Key Canva AI features for presentations
- Brand Kit integration — AI respects your fonts, colors, and logos when generating
- Magic Design for presentations — type a prompt, get a multi-slide deck in seconds with content and visuals
- Magic Write — AI text generation for slide copy, headlines, and speaker notes
- Magic Switch — convert a presentation to a blog post, email, or translate it to 100+ languages instantly
- Dream Lab — generate custom images from text descriptions using the Leonardo Phoenix model
- Magic Animate — adds transitions and animations to your deck with one click
How to create a presentation with Canva Magic Studio
Visit Canva AI Presentation Maker and click on “Create a presentation with AI”.

You can use the description box on the left to prompt the AI tool to generate your presentation.

You can also visit the Canva homepage and enter your prompt directly in the box. In the editor, click the ‘Design’ tab on the left sidebar. Enter your prompt in the search bar — e.g., ‘The Future of Remote Work: trends, tools, and team culture’.

Canva generates several themed template options based on your prompt. Preview them before applying. Each template comes pre-filled with relevant content.

Click ‘Generate design’ to get your design options. You can choose from multiple options. Edit text, swap images, adjust layouts, or use Magic Write to refine any slide’s copy.

Our test result: Canva produced a 10-slide deck in under 45 seconds. The AI pulled in relevant stock images and wrote coherent slide content. Design quality was high.
The main downside: Slides were sometimes template-heavy and required editing to feel truly original.
Prezi Overview

Prezi’s core identity — the non-linear zooming canvas — remains intact in 2026, but the platform has been dramatically upgraded with a full AI generation suite.
Prezi now has over 160 million users globally and is used by companies including Cisco, Salesforce, and Autodesk.
The biggest 2025–2026 addition is Prezi AI, which can generate a complete presentation from a text prompt or from an uploaded file (PowerPoint, PDF, Word).
Unlike Canva, Prezi shows you an editable outline before generating the final deck — giving you structural control that’s missing from most AI presentation tools. The AI is powered by OpenAI, and Prezi states that user inputs are not used to train third-party models.
Prezi also now includes an AI image generator (supporting photo, illustration, 3D, sketch, and vintage styles), an Ask AI text editor for shortening, expanding, or converting text into visual elements, and Prezi Video — which overlays your presentation next to your camera feed for Zoom and virtual meetings.
Key Prezi AI features for presentations
- Full AI generation from prompt — enter a topic and get a spatial, zooming presentation in seconds
- File-to-presentation — upload a PDF, PPT, or DOCX and Prezi extracts and restructures the content
- Editable outline stage — review and adjust structure before the final deck is built
- AI Image Generator — generate custom images in multiple styles without leaving the editor
- Ask AI text tools — shorten, expand, simplify, convert to bullet points, flowcharts, or visual lists
- Prezi Video — appear alongside your content in Zoom/Meet without needing separate software
- QR code generator — instant sharing link as a QR code for live events
How to create a presentation with Canva Magic Studio
Log into your Prezi dashboard. Click the ‘Create with AI’ button, which now appears prominently on the main dashboard.

Enter your presentation title and a short description of your topic. Alternatively, upload a PDF, PPT, or Word file as your source material.
Prezi shows you an editable outline with auto-generated talking points. This is where you can reorder sections, rename topics, add new frames, or remove irrelevant content before the visual design is built.

Once you confirm the outline, Prezi generates the full presentation — complete with the zooming canvas, custom color palette, and images. You can then pick from color theme options and further refine in the editor.
Our test result: Prezi produced a 20-frame spatial presentation in about 60 seconds. The editable outline stage was genuinely useful — we rearranged two sections before generating. The zooming canvas made the final output feel significantly more dynamic than a standard slide deck.
Main downside: no PPT export, and some images were repeated across frames.
Design, templates & ease of use
Canva’s interface remains one of the most approachable in the industry. The drag-and-drop editor, left-side asset panel, and Magic Studio sidebar make it easy for complete non-designers to produce polished slides. The template library now exceeds 600,000 designs across all content types — not just presentations.
Prezi’s canvas takes longer to learn. The spatial metaphor — where all content lives on an infinite plane and frames act like slides — is different enough from conventional tools that first-time users sometimes need 10–20 minutes to feel comfortable. Once mastered, though, presentations stand out sharply from anything produced in a traditional slide tool.
For raw template variety and ease of onboarding, Canva leads. For presentation uniqueness and audience engagement, Prezi leads.
2026 updated pricing for Canva and Prezi
Canva Pricing (Updated 2025–2026)
Canva raised its Pro price in 2025. Here are the current tiers:
| Plan | Price | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0/month | 5GB storage, 1.6M+ templates, basic AI tools, limited Magic credits, Affinity |
| Pro | $15/month or $120/year | 141M+ assets, 100GB storage, full Magic Studio, 500 AI credits/mo, Brand Kits, background remover, PPT/PDF/MP4 export, remove Canva branding, Affinity AI |
| Business (Teams) | $20/user/month or $200/year | Everything in Pro + workflow approvals, admin controls, 100 brand kits, team folders, usage analytics (min. 3 users) |
| Enterprise | Custom price | 1TB storage, SSO, SCIM, advanced governance, audit logs, dedicated support, Affinity integration |
Canva Pro increased from $12.99 to $15/month in 2025. The Teams plan was restructured and rebranded as ‘Business’ at $20/user/month. Education and nonprofit verified accounts still receive Teams-level access for free
Prezi Pricing (Updated 2025–2026)
Prezi now includes AI credits on its free plan, making it accessible to test without committing:
| Plan | Price | Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0/month | 500 AI credits, unlimited public presentations, basic templates, Prezi AI access |
| Plus | $15/month (annual) | Unlimited AI credits, private presentations, offline access (desktop app), PDF export, presentation recording, remove Prezi branding |
| Premium | $25/month (annual) | Everything in Plus + analytics (views, time per frame), priority support |
| Teams | $39/user/month (annual) | Admin controls, shared workspaces, centralized billing, team analytics, SSO |
Prezi Export Limitation
Prezi does not offer PowerPoint export. PDF export requires the Plus plan or above. If your team workflow depends on .pptx files, Prezi is not a viable option without workarounds.
Export and compatibility
This is one of the most practically important differences between the two tools.
Canva on a Pro plan exports to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, MP4 video, GIF, PNG, and SVG. This makes it highly compatible with traditional workflows — you can create in Canva and hand off a .pptx file to a colleague who only uses PowerPoint. Canva also supports importing existing PowerPoint files for editing.
Prezi, by contrast, does not export to PowerPoint. Paid plans can export to PDF, and you can share via link or QR code. For teams embedded in Microsoft Office workflows, this is a significant drawback.
Verdict: Canva vs Prezi in 2026
Both platforms have made significant leaps since 2024. Canva’s Magic Studio is the most comprehensive AI design suite available in any presentation tool, while Prezi AI has finally made its unique zooming canvas accessible to users who previously lacked the time or design skill to build Prezi presentations manually.
The AI race between these two platforms has, ironically, sharpened their differences rather than homogenized them. Canva is broader and more flexible. Prezi is more focused and more memorable. The right choice depends less on which has better AI, and more on how you actually present.
